Vintage Original French Drawing of a Sanding Nude: A pencil on paper drawing of a standing nude. Framed and protected under glass, this work has a stamp on the lower left coming from the atelier of Slade Conrad (1871-1949).
Conrad made his drawings using very fine pencil lines, with a heavier hand on the curves. A simple and powerful work, there is an elegance to the overall appearance, supported by the fine golden frame.
About the artist: Conrad Slade (1871-1949) was an American painter, who came to France to work with the impressionist master Auguste Renoir. During his collaboration with Renoir, Conrad fell in love with the nanny who works for Renoir, Gabrielle Renard. The two went on to marry and Gabrielle continued to work for the Renoir family for 20 years. Gabrielle was also a model for Renoir, and was one of his most prominent muses. She appears in almost 200 of the master's paintings, including the famous "Female Nude Lying on a Bed" painted in 1906, which lives in the Musée de l'Orangerie in Paris.
