Antique French Decor: French School of the 20th-century oil on wood painting of a parrot, signed Édith Honorée Henriette Yvonne Faucon (1919-2019).
The panel has thicknesses marked on the parrot and its perch. Faucon gives a lot of perspective with thick brushstrokes, full of volume.
A work rich in colors where the cold and the hot coexist to create a beautiful harmony of exotic colors.The blue-green drape in the background sublimates the bird's feathers while the aged golden frame completes the effect with elegance and sobriety.
About the Artist: Édith Honorée Henriette Yvonne Faucon was a French painter born in Carentan (Normandy) on May 24, 1919. She began her artistic training at a very young age with the French painter Jules Adler (1865-1952). In 1938, barely 19 years old, she entered the Unicorns Painters Workshop of Emile Dorrée (1883-1959), located in Cherbourg (Normandy), where she studied and painted in an abbey alongside this other notable painter from la Manche (see below as we also have a painting from her mentor). She perfected her technique for landscapes and especially still lifes, which is where she notably excelled. As a multidisciplinary artist, she also worked with porcelain, old earthenware and patina.
She started showing her works at the Salon des Indépendants and the Salon des Artistes Français where she won prizes and awards including the Gold medal at the 1947 Salon, the Charles Duvent Prize in 1957, and the Rosa Bonheur Prize in 1966.
She began to teach at the Beaux-Arts in 1967 where she shared her knowledge for 20 years. Renowned in the French art community, she was also a curator at the Équeurdreville-Hainneville Museum in Cherbourg.
She made a name for herself abroad as well, producing numerous works for galleries in Paris, London, New York, Rio de Janeiro, and Tokyo.
Édith Honorée Henriette Yvonne Faucon won around fifteen prizes throughout a rich career as a sensitive artist, with a deep passion for detail. She passed away in April 2019 and rests near her hometown.- Overall size: 22.4" x 19.2" / 57.5cm x 49cm.
