Au Port

A lovely small port painting on hard carton from the home and atelier of French artist Cécile Hertz-Eyrolles (1875–1974). The work has the atelier stamp on the back of the painting and has been framed in an antique frame with gold leaf.
This oil painting scene features boats in the harbor or port of a village, with houses layered against each other in the background. We can determine this painting is most likely Brittany, based on where Cécile traveled and painted. The painting is made of broad expressive strokes, with strong vertical and horizontal lines, creating an interesting mix of impressionism and a more modern style.
