This still life depicts apples using bold and emotionally expressive brushstrokes. The texture of the elements in the artwork may remind one of the style of Paul Cézanne, particularly his series of paintings featuring apples, which in turn were influenced by Delacroix. In this composition, the balance is inverted, with a row of curving apples and a bowl that appears as if it could slide off the tablecloth. The organic shapes of the fruits contrast with the cylindrical shape of the bowl and the matching tablecloth. Similar to Cézanne, the predominant colors are reds and greens, and the thick, dynamic lines create a distinctive visual language for an ordinary subject.
