Nature Morte
£1,527.00
A beautiful still life on canvas from the early 20th century signed "Boulard" at the bottom right, potentially painted by the French artist Émile Boulard (1863-1943).
The realistic composition features a gilt-head bream prominently in the foreground, almost upright on the grey fabric where it rests. To its right, a mackerel lies on its side, its tail rising into the dark background. The rest of the fish bodies stand out against the backdrop thanks to the treatment of light, which highlights the glossy skin and shimmering scales.
The beautiful chiaroscuro effect is enhanced by the gleam of the sculpted foliage frame, which amplifies the light and adds a final touch of elegance.
