A charming 19th-century oil on wood panel, paired with "Au Bois" and painted in an Impressionist style. Depicting a forested hillside with two rectangular shapes standing out at the center, the foreground is textured with energy, creating a lush effect, while the brushstrokes become smoother and quicker as they recede, yet still carry the same emotional impact. The gilded frame is also antique, though it has areas of restored gilding. Turn the painting over, to see how a cigar box from Cuba was used as the artist's material.
