Au bois
A small 19th-century oil on wood, paired with "Campagne," depicting a figure by the water in a forest. Here too, the misty brushstrokes reflect an Impressionist influence. The colors are delightful, with the red top of the figure standing out and reflecting in the water.
The frame, with its ochre-toned gilding, complements the palette beautifully. Look at the reverse of the painting for a special back, which may have been a wooden box of cigars or similar.
