Long River
£475.00
A 20th-century French School oil painting on canvas signed by R. Gantelme (19th & 20th century) and dated 1909 in the lower right corner. The work has a slight texture to the touch.
This mid-sized landscape portrays a romantic river sweeping through a small town, bordered by flowering greenery. On the left-hand side, a ruin or old castle is visible, along with what appears to be a blue boat pulled up onto the bank.
The painting employs a mix of sharp and very blurry, soft brushstrokes, creating a romantic effect. The surface of the canvas is in great condition, with one restoration in the middle of the painting and some small flecks of paint missing on the outer edges. The frame is contemporary.
