Double Marine
A double-sided expressive landscape painting on hard carton from the home and atelier of French artist Cécile Hertz-Eyrolles (1875–1974). The work has the atelier stamp on the back of the painting.
A unique double-sided landscape, means you have two paintings in one.
Side 1: This vibrant landscape overlooks a bay from the hills and fields above. Cécile’s brushstrokes are free and unrestrained, particularly evident in the depiction of the fields, trees, and foliage in the foreground. While there is a naive, childlike quality to the painting, the artist's skill shines through in her masterful use of color, composition, and dimension.
Side 2: A scene depicting a village nestled between hills, perched on the edge of a beach. In the foreground, the tidelands form a network of tributaries and tide pools. This side of the painting is rendered with sparser paint compared to its reverse, yet it retains an equal sense of dynamism.
Condition to note: Side 1 is in quite good condition. The edges of the painting show wear consistent with age. On Side 2, we see paint spots from other projects, however, the overall condition is quite good.
