A lyrical oil painting on hard carton from the home and atelier of French artist Cécile Hertz-Eyrolles (1875–1974). The work has the atelier stamp on the back of the painting.

This seaside village painting is from the perspective of the ocean. The low tide sands and rivulets in the foreground make up half of the painting. The village itself is a narrow band of houses, a church steeple, and pointy roofs, against a large muted blue sky. Cécile used soft, wavy brushstrokes to create this landscape, and the effect of her techniques and colors is almost ethereal, like a faded polaroid of summer. In some ways, these paintings "en plein air," were the polaroids of their day.

Condition to note: There are a few marks on the surface of the painting, including a small scrape on the lower edge. The frame is in wonderful condition, and the overall condition of the painting is very good for its age. On the reverse of the painting, you can see a corner of the carton is damaged, but the frame covers this missing piece.
