Les Barques

Antique French Landscape: Oil painting on canvas by Antoine Léonard Jean-Vincent Carlos Bordes (1898-1969).

In this view of a small port, we see a couple of colorful boats pulled up on the bank. The mustard and brick colors in the boats are juxtaposed with the steel blue and smokey sky. Despite a dark palette, the work gives off a beautiful natural light. There is also movement thanks to the sky and sea volumes, reminiscent of the marine climate and coastal towns of France. Les Barques means "the boats" in French.
