Petit Déjeuner
20th-century oil painting on wooden panel signed Louis Clesse (1889-1961) in the lower left and dated '34. The work has texture to the touch.
A still life featuring pastries, coffee service and a breakfast spread on a white tablecloth depicted with textured and dynamic brushstrokes. Louis Clesse's Impressionist technique imparts a soft and velvety quality to the pastries, whose imperfect geometry stands in contrast to the surrounding elements. The light originates from the front, casting a radiant glow upon the pastries on the table, further emphasizing the contrast with the dark tea and coffee set, which almost blends into the background.
