Antique French Original Landscape Oil Painting: Maurice Martin was born on July 19, 1894 in Mormant, near Paris. He is a landscape painter and knight of the Legion of Honor in France.

Martin spent his childhood drawing and dreaming about the Beaux-Arts Academy, where he wanted to attend.

Sadly, World War I prevented his dream from coming to fruition. He left for the Front, assigned to the 149th infantry line regiment in Lisieux. Maurice suffered a wound to his left arm, and was hospitalized in Lyon. He spent his convalescence painting and drawing from his bed.

Starting in 1932, Martin exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants, the Salon d'Automne, and especially the Salon des Artistes Français. He participated in the Salon de la Marine and the Salon Comparaisons. In 1936, he obtained an honorable mention at the Salon des Artistes Français for Le Quai des Laveuses in Moret as well as the Paul Liot Prize. In 1942, he won a silver medal at the same salon.

Martin went on to exhibit in Tokyo, London, Los Angeles and New York. Some of his works are exhibited in French museums and at the Town Hall in Paris.

In 1946, still in the Salon, he finally won the Gold Medal as well as the Corot Prize and the Rosa Bonheur Prize. Starting in 1950, he devoted himself fully to his art. Martin died in Paris in 1978 without ever having given up his passion.
