Marais de Blois

20th-century French school oil on canvas mounted on carton signed lower right L.Charue?. The work is dated 1906 on the back and is located in Blois (Centre-Val de Loire). The work is smooth to the touch.

This moody brocante painting comes in an exceptionally detailed original frame, with elaborate motifs, and missing pieces, which add to the patina effect. The marais, or swamp, is painted with rich colors reminiscent of the mossy landscape (and the frame), and distilling light into a few select areas; through the trees and onto the water.

The painting itself is in good condition for its age, with some missing flecks of paint along the right hands side. The frame, as stated above has some missing pieces and restoration marks but bears its 100+ years well.
