Le Doyen

$900.00

A dynamic figure painting on canvas marouflaged (mounted) on hard carton from the home and atelier of French artist Cécile Hertz-Eyrolles (1875–1974). The work has the atelier stamp on the back of the painting.

This figure painting features a man wearing a large brim hat and holding a stick, surrounded by pottery and materials. We call him "Le Doyen," which does not have a direct translation in French, but means basically, "an older man or woman from the village." He sits with both hands on his stick, resting from a day of trade, or just passing the time. The green pot in particular adds a brightness to the otherwise organic and muted scene. The brush strokes are large and dynamic.

Condition to note: The corners are slightly warped, but overall the condition is great for its age. This painting could be easily framed or mounted as is.
