La Cueillette
20th-century French School oil painting on canvas (large scale) by André Strauss (1885-1977), signed and dated 1920 in the lower left corner. A plaque bearing the artist's name is located on the lower horizontal edge. The artwork possesses a textured surface when touched.
This impressionistic landscape painting offers a glimpse into the beauty of the Basque country. The voluminous brushstrokes in the foreground create a textured effect that gradually fades into the depth of the composition. The interplay of light and the realistic color palette effectively capture the atmosphere of a summer afternoon in the Basque country as a woman picks fruit in an orchard. The gilt wood and stucco frame add an elegant touch to the artwork.
