Les Calanques
20th-century oil on hardboard signed J. Dubut for Jeanne Dubut (1889-1972) and located as Cassis (French Riviera) on the back.
A luminous and instantly recognizable view of the Calanques of Cassis, where towering white limestone cliffs meet the shimmering azure waters of the Mediterranean. A solitary boat drifts gently, its sail absent, while a lone figure pushes off from the rocks with a long pole—an intimate, almost poetic gesture that anchors the composition.
Dubut’s post-Impressionist touch brings the scene to life, with a radiant palette of ochre, gold, and deep blues that capture the warmth and vibrancy of the Riviera. The unique vertical format enhances the depth of the landscape, drawing the eye from the crystalline waters upward toward the sunlit cliffs.
A quintessential tribute to the South of France, this painting would make a striking addition to a bright, airy space—its coastal charm perfectly suited to a white wall or a sunlit corner.
