Double Portrait

$800.00

A unique double-sided interior oil painting on wood with figures from the home and atelier of French artist Cécile Hertz-Eyrolles (1875–1974). The work has the atelier stamp on one side of the painting.

With this piece, you actually acquire two paintings, one on each side. The side with the woman reading on the sofa, shows the figure surrounded by artworks, paintings on the wall, busts and sculptures on the mantle. The brush strokes are rugged, contrasting the intimate interior scene. The condition on this side is also notable,  with some areas where the wood has peeled back along the lower edge. This appears to have happened before the painting was created, as Cecile painted over the jagged lower edge.

The reverse side of the piece, shows a woman on a sofa, also surrounded by art and objects. This side of the painting does not have any damage. The colors are brushed on with abstract strokes, almost like pastel, creating an unfinished and enigmatic feel to the piece.

Choose which piece you display, and change the piece over as you desire. Both sides are lovely.
