Deux Chiens
19th-century oil painting on canvas of two dogs in the countryside. The dogs are probably working dogs, keeping track of a flock of sheep, and pausing to drink. This painting is unsigned and is a study of another painting. While an original piece of art, and painted in the 1800's, we believe it is a study of another artist's work, which was a common practice at the time.
The painting is in excellent condition for its age. A varnish has protected the surface integrity of the work over time, and also has a slight patina that has developed. It could be cleaned and removed if desired. Paired with a heavy frame from the 1800's, this piece would be a lovely addition to a library, hall way or painting wall.
