Seabirds
19th-century French School oil on hard carton. The work is signed Villemain (19th & 20th century) and dated June 86 for 1886. The surface is smooth to the touch and is backed by a newspaper page from the period, featuring an article about the Bismarck House and King Leopold II (1835-1909) of Belgium.
This painting depicts a coastal scene, with seabirds flying overhead. The beach in the foreground transitions into a meadow dotted with wildflowers and a few soft trees under a muted gray sky. The colors have been preserved with a light varnish, keeping the painting in excellent condition for its age. The frame is more contemporary and also in good condition.
