Church View

20th-century French school oil on carton signed Charles Berges (1851-1941). The work has little texture to the touch.

A medium-sized landscape painting, quintessentially French, with the village and church tower nestled in the hills, visible through the greenery, and the mountains in the background. We imagine the foothills of the Pyrenees. 

The painting has excellent colors, and wonderful movement, the way the oil was painted in some areas looks almost like pastel. A signature is visible in the lower right.

The condition is quite good. The outermost edge of the painting reveals marks and fraying due to time, but overall great condition.
