Professe
An oil painting of a church on hard carton, from the home and atelier of French artist Cécile Hertz-Eyrolles (1875–1974). The reverse bears the artist’s atelier stamp.
In this gentle village scene, a Gothic church tower rises behind the rooftops of surrounding houses. A woman in a black dress walks along a stone path in the foreground. The painting is rendered in a soft, light palette with brisk brushstrokes, and in places, the hard carton support is left exposed — giving the work an almost pastel-like appearance. The composition is likely inspired by Saint-Malo-de-la-Lande, a small village in Normandy, not to be confused with the coastal town of Saint-Malo in Brittany.
The painting is housed in an antique frame from the late 19th century.
