Le Port
An oil painting of a port on wood, from the home and atelier of French artist Cécile Hertz-Eyrolles (1875–1974). The reverse bears the artist’s atelier stamp.
This charming harbor scene depicts a northern French port, with a pair of sailboats pulled up along the quai, facing a village and its main street. The buildings have broad white facades, a few colorful canopies, and small figures passing by — evoking the atmosphere of a quiet day in Normandy or Brittany. The sky is rendered in a soft grey, and the still water mirrors the calmness of the day. Hertz-Eyrolles used sweeping brushstrokes throughout, creating a smooth, blended surface in both the sky and water.
The painting is housed in an antique frame from the late 19th century.
Condition to note: The painting is in very good condition. There are a few areas where the texture of the wood shows through due to age, and a slight separation between the artwork and frame in the lower right corner. Overall, a lovely condition for its age.
