L'Armagnac
A charming vertical piece, dated 1932 and signed in the bottom right corner by R. Boutillié for Raphaël Boutillier (1863–1947), a French painter born in Normandy. As written on the back, the scene is located in Sainte-Christie-d'Armagnac, a commune in the Gers department of the Occitanie region, known for its well-preserved 2nd-century Gallo-Roman amphitheater.
This Impressionist depiction of a path features a pale palette and beautiful natural lighting, enhanced by elegantly textured comma-shaped brushstrokes that convey movement. The small, light Montparnasse frame, made of sculpted wood, is more recent but complements the artwork well.
