Fine art from France: 20th century French School watercolor on carton under glass attributed to Isidore Rosenstock (1880-1956).

Isidore Rosenstock was a beloved French painter. Rosenstock left a mark on all those who knew him, and his watercolors have been widely admired. He was nicknamed "The Painter of Flowers." In his twenties, Rosenstock was a member of La Société des Artistes Français, where he was active as a painter and participated in the Salons, showing his watercolors of bouquets, the gardens of Versailles, chateaux and the canals of Venice. He was a prolific artist and quickly gained a reputation. His bouquets were widely reproduced and paintings were acquired by the French state. 

The year 1939 was a difficult turning point in Rosenstock's life. When the Second World War broke out, his Jewish origins forced him to flee Paris and hide out in the southern village of Le Lavandou, where the village hid and protected him.

He continued to paint and produced several series of Lavandou watercolors, full of charm, bright and colorful, faithful witnesses of their beautiful village, a small fishing port of the 1940s where Rosenstock found the courage of a whole village to help him.

After the war, Rosenstock returned regularly to stay and paint beaches and villages. Rosenstock was recognized by his peers and art lovers, in France and abroad, and certainly by the habitants of Le Lavandou where he's been honored.
