Original French oil painting landscape: A large-scale painting on canvas, with a golden stucco frame, painted by Claude-René Martin, born in 1885 in Paris.
Landscape with a bird's eye view of the hills of southern France. Vines are in the foreground with beautiful thicknesses on the canvas. Martin plays with textures, his smooth dove gray hills are reminiscent of the vistas in Provence. The colors and the light do justice to the romantic landscapes of the provinces with their perched villages and the sea that is almost visible beyond the hills.
About the artist:  Claude-René Martin was a French painter, wood engraver and illustrator born June 15, 1885 in the 14th arrondissement of Paris. His works (oils and watercolors) are mostly portraits, still lifes and above all views of Paris and landscapes of resorts in the Basque Country, Brittany, North Africa and even Eastern Europe.

  • Condition: The canvas has veins due to age but is in excellent condition. The frame is in a very good condition too. There is a lighter mark (1.9") on the lower horizontal edge, probably a plaque which had to be removed.
