Maison du Sud
20th-century French school large-scale oil on cardboard painting by Raymond Rochette (1906-1993), featuring minimal texture.
The artwork showcases a landscape created using brush or knife strokes, displaying a strong cubic intention and voluminous feel. The relief of the texture and the geometric directions highlight the emotion in the piece while the bright light enhances the vibrant polychrome palette, harmonized by the soft tones of the frame.
About the artist: Raymond Rochette, a French painter born in Creusot (Burgundy) in 1906, began drawing with charcoal early on but never attended an academic art school. This lack of classical training made him a unique artist, free from conventions and passionate about various subjects. Rochette painted landscapes of the Morvan, rural life scenes, factories, and portraits. He traveled extensively in Morocco and Italy for inspiration, creating luminous landscapes with vibrant palettes. Rochette passed away in 1993, and his works are now displayed in French fine art museums and various exhibitions across France.
