Jungle Painting
Antique oil painting from France: The artist, André Jouault, was born in Domfront (Normandy), on July 24, 1904, and died on January 5, 1987, in Mantilly.
Jouault left for Paris at a very young age, and went through various professions (including director of a bleach factory), before being able to fully commit to his art. He traveled extensively in Africa - he was a professor at the "Beaux-Arts" of Tunis. He spent some time in Madagascar, especially in 1947, at the time of the revolts.
It was probably during one of his trips to Madagascar that he painted this lush nature in a garden, with a generous brush. The line is thick and brings out the warm and tropical atmosphere. The abundant colors amplify the different plants and flowers. The use of bright colors on the flowers transports us with him to this vibrant landscape.
Between 1932 and 1952, Jouault painted the frescoes of "La Chapelle de l'Oratoire", in Passais-la-Conception, which narrate the Christianization of this Norman region.
