Fantassin
19th-century French school painting on wood. The work is signed and smooth to the touch.
This small French oil painting shows a soldier or infantry, known as a "Fantassin." His outfit and weapon place him at around 1870, and as part of the Franco-Prussian War. The painting itself has cleaned and revarnished, which is why the colors are so bright. A signature is noticeable in the lower right hand corner, "A. Fournier."
The painting itself has a few scratches and marks on it's surface and around the edges, due to a previous framing. Otherwise it is in excellent condition. The frame is contemporary and not an authentic antique.
